What’s a Typical Weekend Stay Like at Suncook River Camp?

Written by Suncook River Camp | Jan 27, 2026 10:08:31 PM

Here’s what you can expect as a weekend guest at Suncook River Camp—whether you’re renting a cabin, glamping dome, or RV from us, or bringing your own RV or tent. Curious what there is to do nearby? Be sure to check out our guide to things to do near Suncook River Camp in Suncook, NH.

Friday: Arrive, Unpack, and Head to the Bonfire

Most weekend guests arrive Friday afternoon or early evening. Check-in runs from 3:00–8:00pm, and if you’re running late, no stress—just text us at 603-691-3028 so we can set you up with an after-hours packet, map, and site instructions.

Before you arrive, make sure the cell number on your reservation is correct. We use text messaging throughout the weekend to share check-in info, your weekend itinerary, food offerings, activity reminders, and to respond to questions in real time. It’s also how you can request things like scheduled firewood delivery or help at your site or rental. Staff are onsite, but text is the fastest way to reach us.

Friday morning, you’ll receive a simple weekend itinerary outlining:

  • Prepared food offerings or food trucks (typically Friday dinner and Saturday lunch/dinner from late June through Labor Day)
  • Kids activities
  • Movie or retro video game nights
  • Anything special happening that weekend (BBQs, camp-wide floats, pop-ups)

Once you’re set up, Friday night is usually low-key: a walk along the river, grabbing dinner at a food truck or ordering from our food service menu (if available) and a community bonfire where we usually have a special drink or snack.

Saturday: River, Bikes, Pool, & Kids Activities

Saturday starts slow. Coffee at your site or rental (our rentals include everything you need: electric kettle, camp mugs, pour-over coffee, creamer, and sweetener). Kids ride bikes freely on the ¾-mile private gravel loop, and dog walkers enjoy a peaceful wooded stroll.

From there, the day is usually a mix of:

  • Floating or paddling the Suncook River (bring your own or rent kayaks, canoes, or tubes)
  • Pool time (open 8am–8pm; no lifeguard on duty)
  • Playground stops and open-ended kid energy

  • Cedar barrel sauna sessions (open dawn through quiet hours at 10pm; 18+)
  • Watching the river go by at your site

Floating between beaches takes about an hour, while paddling upstream can stretch for miles at a relaxed pace. Rental gear is easy to grab near the office, and help is always a text away.

During peak season (late June through Labor Day), Saturdays typically include:

  • Kids crafts (usually between 10am–2pm; schedule shared in advance)
  • Pre-ordered food delivery or food trucks
  • Family-friendly movie or video game nights (G or PG crowd-pleasers)

A community bonfire near the pool and playground.

If you ever need a break from the outdoors, the camp store is stocked with snacks, ice cream, drinks, hats, hoodies, and a small LEGO table for kids who need a reset.

Sunday: Slow Morning & Easy Departures

Sunday mornings are unhurried. Coffee by the fire, one last paddle, a final walk around the loop. Check-out is at 11:00am, but you’re welcome to stay on the grounds for the day—as long as you’re off your site by checkout (RVs can check with us via text if you'd like to stay longer).

Before heading out:

  • Drop trash and recycling at the dumpsters near the entrance
  • Return any rental gear
  • If you stayed in a rental, piling linens is appreciated (but optional)
  • Drop your keys at the Office Key Drop Box, or hand them to us directly after 10am

The camp store opens at 10:00am on Sundays, so if you’re hoping to grab a sticker, sweatshirt, or hat, plan to stop in before you head out—or delay reality a bit longer.

What Else to Know

(Good) Dogs Encouraged: Dogs are very much part of the weekend here. They’re welcome throughout the campground, with plenty of places to walk and explore. Dogs must be leashed or fenced at all times, can’t be left unattended in rental units, and rental units allow 1 dog max. There’s a dog wash station by the bathhouse—and treats in the camp store for all the good boys and girls.

We’re not a "party" campground: We’d love to host your friend group, family reunion or interest group. Just note, we have zero tolerance for noise disturbances including loud or explicit music, loud/aggressive dogs, and partying. We’re just not that kind of campground, but we can recommend the ones near us that are. We're a place families want to bring their kids. We  expect you to be courteous and kind to everyone who camps with us.

If you have questions before or during your stay, text us anytime at 603-691-3028.
