Boating and Fishing on the Suncook River

One of the main reasons campers choose Suncook River Camp in Suncook, NH is direct access to the Suncook River. The river runs through the campground, offering easy opportunities for boating, tubing, and fishing. Here’s what to know about boating and fishing during your stay.

Exploring the Suncook River

The Suncook River is a slow-moving, winding river that flows through the northeastern and southwestern edges of the campground. The current is generally gentle, making it well suited for paddling both downstream and upstream.

Guests can:

• Paddle upstream to explore shaded stretches of river and wildlife areas
• Float downstream between the two beaches on our property (about an hour by tube)
• Enjoy calm water that’s great for families and first-time paddlers

Wildlife sightings are common (birds, fish, frogs, flowers), and the river is home to a variety of fish species.

Boat and Tube Rentals

Suncook River Camp offers canoes, kayaks, and river-rated tubes for guest use. Need a quick lesson or refresher? Not sure what paddle goes to which boat? Ask our staff for a quick how-to or to help with sizing.

Available rentals include:

• 1- and 2-person kayaks
• Kid-friendly kayaks
• Canoes suitable for families of 3–4
• High-quality tubes designed for river use
• Stand-Up Paddleboard

Rental rate:

• $20 per person for the duration of your stay, kids under 5 free
• Dry bags $5 (for keys and phones)
• Rent in advance at checkout or text us during your stay to confirm availability

Life vests (PFDs) and paddles are included with all rentals and are located near the camp store and office. All guests need to review and sign our Boating Waiver (at office or online), and all children under 18 must wear a PFD at all times.

Guests are also welcome to bring their own kayak, canoe, or SUP and launch from either beach on the property.

When and Where You Can Boat & Tube the Suncook

• Boating and tubing are allowed from dawn to dusk
• Boats are not permitted on the river after dusk
• Launch from either beach on the campground
• Guests must review and agree to the boat policy and waiver before renting

These guidelines help keep the river safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Fishing at Suncook River Camp

Fishing is a popular activity at the campground, with common catches including large mouth bass, perch, trout, and other warm-water fish. Guests can fish:

• Directly from most riverfront campsites
• From quieter shaded areas accessed by canoe or kayak
• From designated areas recommended by staff (just text us if you’d like help finding a spot)

Please note:

• No fishing at the two beach areas, which helps protect swimmers and boaters entering and exiting the water
• The State of NH requires a license to fish. Suncook River Camp doesn’t check or enforce licenses, but anglers are responsible for following state rules.

A limited number of fishing poles may be available on a first-come basis, and live bait is often stocked at our store. Text ahead to confirm availability or pick some up at several local convenience stores nearby.
